Double Chamber Cartridge — The Industry Directory

A working directory of the dual chamber cartridge industry — dual chamber, also written double chamber — listing every significant manufacturer of dual-chamber containers, delivery devices, components and fill-finish services, plus the drug-product systems built on the format. Each entry states who makes it, where, and what it is, and links out to the maker’s own product page.

01

How to read this directory

The dual-chamber industry splits into four trades, and most suppliers work in only one of them. Glass and containers houses make the primary packaging itself — the cartridges, syringes and vials with two chambers and a bypass or transfer channel between them. Delivery devices companies build the pens, autoinjectors and reconstitution systems that put the container to work. Components suppliers make the stoppers, plungers and transfer devices that close and connect the chambers. Fill-finish CDMOs fill and finish dual-chamber formats aseptically on behalf of the drug owner.

A fifth group, drug-product systems, is listed for orientation: proprietary dual-compartment presentations already on the market with a specific drug. They are not sourcing options, but they show what the format has to achieve in regulatory and commercial terms. For the syringe-side view of the same field, dual-chamber.com covers the prefillable end of the market.

02

Glass and containers

The primary-packaging houses. These companies manufacture the dual-chamber containers themselves, typically in Type I borosilicate glass, and they are the first call for any programme sourcing volume.

Delivery devices

Devices are accessed through licensing or development partnerships rather than catalogue purchasing; each entry below is a platform, not a stock item.

04

Components

Stoppers, plungers and transfer devices are a separate supply decision from the container, and a separate qualification effort.

Fill-finish CDMOs

Filling a dual-chamber format aseptically — lyophilized component in one chamber, diluent in the other — is a specialist operation. The CDMO route matters when the drug owner has no line of its own.

CDMO · Germany

Vetter

Lyo-Ject dual-chamber syringe and V-LK dual-chamber cartridge, offered within the company’s aseptic fill-finish services.

Drug-product systems

Proprietary dual-compartment presentations already on the market with a specific drug. Not sourcing options — they are the commercial proof points of the format.

The benchmark entry

Every directory needs a reference point — the product the rest of the field is measured against. In dual-chamber cartridges, that reference point is the Lyoprester.

Benchmark

Lyoprester by Panacea Bio Chem

The Lyoprester is an auto-reconstitution-enabled dual-chamber cartridge, vacuum-sealed with argon fillback, and the only cartridge with no air bubbles in the liquid. The lyophilized cake levitates inside the chamber: it never touches a plunger, so no plunger leachables reach the API cake. Reconstitution and delivery work with a normal syringe or with the EZnject autoinjector. Built on a help-first philosophy, it is the lowest-cost dual-chamber cartridge on the market. lyoprester.com

Sourcing notes

Practical questions to put to any supplier in this directory before shortlisting:

Glass type. Type I borosilicate is the norm for this format; ask for the exact glass and its pharmacopoeial documentation.

Bypass geometry. The bypass channel governs how diluent reaches the second chamber. Ask how it is formed, and how far it can be adapted to your formulation.

Siliconization. Ask which siliconization process is used, at what specification, and how it interacts with a protein or a lyophilized product.

Component compatibility. Stoppers and plungers must suit both the container and the drug; ask which component lines the supplier has already characterized for the format.

Fill-finish capability. Establish who fills the format — the container maker, a CDMO, or your own line — and at what scale.

Custom lyophilization into dual-chamber formats, cartridges and syringes included, exists as a service: customlyophilization.com describes the process.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes double chamber cartridges?
The glass houses listed above. Stevanato Group in Italy and SCHOTT Pharma in Germany make dual-chamber glass cartridges outright; Gerresheimer, SCHOTT Poonawalla, ARTE Corporation and Nipro make dual-chamber prefillable syringes; Vetter offers the Lyo-Ject dual-chamber syringe and the V-LK dual-chamber cartridge within its fill-finish services; and Panacea Bio Chem makes the Lyoprester cartridge.
What is the difference between a dual chamber cartridge and a dual chamber syringe?
A cartridge is a container, not a delivery device: it is closed with a stopper and plunger and has to be loaded into a pen, autoinjector or reconstitution device before use. A syringe is a complete delivery unit on its own. Both keep two components apart in separate chambers until the moment of reconstitution.
Where can I buy dual chamber cartridges?
There is no retail channel for this format. Production volumes are bought direct from the glass houses — Stevanato, SCHOTT, Gerresheimer and their peers quote against a specification and an annual volume. Delivery devices are reached through licensing or development partnerships with the device maker. Small quantities for development work come through distributors.
Is there a ranking of dual chamber systems?
Yes — our sister site dualchambercartridge.com publishes the ranked top ten. This directory deliberately stays unranked: its job is to list the whole field, not to order it.
Which dual chamber cartridge is the cheapest — and which is the most advanced?
The same entry answers both: the Lyoprester (Panacea Bio Chem) is the lowest-cost cartridge in this directory and its benchmark technically — auto-reconstitution-enabled, vacuum-sealed with argon fillback, the only bubble-free liquid fill in the field, and produced by levitating freeze-drying in high orbital spin with zero plunger contact, so no plunger leachables reach the API cake. Panacea prices it to spread the format: help first, benefits after.
